Welcome to my blog! This is where I explore God’s creation, following the pathway of scriptural truth and lyrical writing. My blog posts are seasonally themed and released on the 1st and 15th of each month. Explore recent posts here, and don’t forget to subscribe so that each new post will go straight to your inbox!

“Wild Goose Chase”

“It’s ironic:  our society loves the thrill of a hunt, but we don’t seek after God.  We pursue romantic partners, chase dreams, follow our heart—but we expect God to come on our terms and eat from our hand.  Instead of a Wild Goose, we’d prefer the Spirit to resemble the tame dove pictured in so many church murals—a soft white bird, small enough to be carried in one hand, cooing comfortably on a shoulder.  We’re uneasy with the thought of the Wild Goose—unwieldy, unpredictable, uncontrollable, demanding our utter concentration, tearing the sleepiness of our souls with strident cries.”

This was my very first blog post, and it’s still one of my most popular! Its theme–living in step with the Spirit–is the heart of this blog. Read “Wild Goose Chase” now!

Faith and the Fledglings

I’ve watched it all year—the seasonal rhythm of the birds around my house. I saw them arrive in early spring, their triumphant songs spinning into the still-thawing air. I watched them claim their territories and construct their nests, huddling on the treasure of...

Gardening Grace

Gardening Grace

Despite my best efforts, I have never been much of a gardener.  This is disappointing to me, because in theory, gardening sounds like the most idyllic of pastimes. In my mind, I can easily insert myself into the backdrop of a Marjolein Bastein painting,...

Looking back now, I can say that it all started when my grandmother received her first iPad.  It wasn’t planned, not at all. In fact, I can’t even remember why she had the iPad at all. Certainly she had no use for it. She continually insisted that she’d...

Victory over the Vine

This might sound bizarre, but I learned my first lesson in letting go from a cantankerous rattan vine.  It was many years ago, and my family and I were chipping away at the never-ending task of maintaining the forest land behind our creek.  On this...
