Let Me Introduce Myself!

I love meeting new friends!

“If I am a woman at all worthwhile, it will be because I have had such wonderful opportunities. Not every girl is driven to the forest to learn what God has to say there.”

~ Gene Stratton-Porter, A Girl of the Limberlost

I am blessed indeed. You see, I grew up on 26 acres of beautiful Arkansas countryside—chasing lightning bugs on summer evenings, splashing in the creek with my playful dogs, catching frogs and keeping them in my pockets for the duration of an afternoon’s ramble. Homeschooled from kindergarten through twelfth grade, I knew the value of being open to the lessons all around, and I began to find many of those as I explored my corner of creation. And from the earliest memories, I had a strong sense of story—making up my own tales, exulting in those I found in books, and marveling at the mysterious sense that the God of all glory was weaving a story in and through me. I felt no doubt that when I was older, I would put pen to paper and weave words of my own.

By the time I went to college, I was still most at home where the pavement ends and the streetlights die. I earned a degree in English and missions because I was realizing those two could go hand-in-hand—writing could be my outreach to a hurting world. And it was around that time that God impressed upon me the idea of combining the wonder of creation with the words of Scripture. On April 1, 2019, Words from the Wilderness was born. Since then, my writing has been blessed beyond my wildest dreams. I take great joy in sharing the truths found in nature through my bimonthly blog posts and my podcast. I’ve also had the opportunity to write several inspirational short stories for the online magazine Short Fiction Break. Perhaps most exciting of all, my book, A Year in the Woods, has been published! God has indeed taken this country girl’s whispered words far beyond where I could have ever imagined. I pray I continue to sing His praises well.

Fun Facts:

  • My hobbies include hiking, running, birdwatching, reading, playing the piano, and praise dancing.

  • I have traveled to thirty-six U. S. states and Canada. My favorites among these destinations have been Estes Park, Colorado; Bar Harbor, Maine; Townsend, Tennessee; and Niagara, Canada. Places I hope to visit one day include Glacier National Park, Ireland, and Australia.

  • I have two wonderful dogs–Mercy, my loyal Labrador Retriever, and Gailey, my sassy Jack Russell Terrier–as well as Noah Japheth, a condescending cat who graciously allows me the privilege of serving him.

  • My favorite color is camo–of any pattern!

I’m so glad you’re joining me on this journey. The best hikes are taken with friends! I’m always on an adventure, so stay tuned for what’s in store…
