Short Stories

"A Choice to Change"

Former drug addict Jake is trying to rewrite his past…until the pressure to return to his old life feels unbearable. Living the straight and narrow life seems a little TOO straight and narrow, especially when God doesn’t appear to be rewarding Jake’s efforts.  But just when this desperate man is ready to turn his back on everything he’s believed, could the grace he’s been searching for appear in an unexpected place?

This story is dedicated to the valiant men and women who follow the path of faith out of the pit of addiction–and to the God Who is always, always, in the miracle business.

"Unlocked"

When Taylor becomes quite literally trapped in her own mind, her life as a prisoner is reduced to the single frantic need to escape.  But when a stranger appears in her cell with the worst news she’s ever received, could freedom be closer than she thinks?

If you’ve ever struggled with emotional and mental pain, this story is written specifically for you.  I pray it brings you the healing gift of hope.

"After the Storm"

The last thing Sherri Larson needed was another storm in her already tumultuous life.  But when tornado sirens begin screaming in her small Kansas town, she’s forced to take cover with her son…and a questionable stranger.  But as the worst storm Sherri has ever known begins to rage, could a hint of God’s Presence be much closer than she thinks?

“After the Storm” was my first short story to be published, and it remains my favorite to this day!  It’s my goal that this tale ministers to you if you too are in a stormy season.

guest posts

"Of Faith and Flowers"

“In a world of mega and super and extra, everyday acts of kindness can seem so pitifully small.  But when I see those daffodils, I realize the truth I so often overlook—it is precisely in those humble moments that the Holy Spirit blows His gentle breath over this hurting world.”

"Grace in the Growing"

“Growing is not glamorous.  Life is a good deal sharper than I had envisioned.  Most weeks, I wrestle weary.  Yet through all my complaints and confusion and contumely, the Master Gardener is still fashioning me.”

"Strength for the Silent Season"

But make no mistake: God is working—even and especially in the times when we are sure He is not. The God Who nurtures spring under the silent surface of winter is still accomplishing His purposes in ways that often go unseen until they’re completed.
